Blog #1 - Global Warming Advertisement

Source: ads.biteus.org/stop-global-warming/

Global warming is an issue that affects everyone in the world. It is a growing issue amonsgt environmentalists, scientists and countries majorly affected by it.

This advertisement shows a polar bear in the middle of the street. It is a constructed reality because polar bears do not live in the street. The bigger story here is that because of global warming, the polar bear's habitat is being destroyed, and eventually it is going to end up in a place it does not want to be. The constructed reality portrays an unrealistic situation, however it also portrays a realism that is happening to our world.

When you first look at the advertisement, your eyes wander right to the polar bear. And yes, polar bears are cute and look cuddly, but once you look at the background of the picture you realize that they are suffering in our world. The polar bear is the clue in this text; it targets those who are animal lovers, those who are aware of their disentegrating habitat, and anybody who is affected by the effects of global warming. Whoever made this advertisement knew that portraying something that will affect a majority of its audience, would be able to benefit themselves in the end.

This media text is supported by the World Wildlife Fund, therefore there is some sort of monetary interest involved. It is not necessarily asking for money up front, it is asking for the support of its audience in fighting against global warming. In turn, the audience would support the charity and they may end up getting monetary benefits. As it is not a grassroots charity, the government may also have a part in the advertising of the WWF, and would therefore gain some sort of monetary benefit because of their involvement.

As it is well known, global warming is an issue that will eventually affect us all. This advertisement shows a fixed reality of what type of concequences may come of it. Although it is suitably constructed, the main message of fighting global warming is clearly portrayed.

  1. Whoever put together this ad did a good job by making the polar bear the focus. This will draw in people of all age groups and make them realize that we need to make a difference! No one likes to see animals in a poor state like the one in this ad.

  2. This is a really great ad/ decomposition. It's interesting how the colours of the ad make all the main aspects stand out. It's dark in the corners of the ad but bright in the distance creating the whole idea that there is a brighter, happier side of life if we end global warming.
